Champagne by the River

The camp site is located  on a private fruit farm on the banks of the Zonderend River, approximately 15 km from Greyton and 32 km from Caledon in the Western Cape. It is about an hour and a half drive from Cape Town.

6 sites arranged along the river's edge. The sites are flat, large, grassed and have a row of trees along the back.  There is some shade depending on the sun's location in the sky, but it is advisable to bring your gazebo.

There are 4 electrical boxes with two standard plug points.  The boxes have been placed high up against the embankment and are therefore quite far away from the sites.  You will need to bring a long extension cord along (200m).

There is only one ablution block, on the campsite, with two separate bathrooms consisting of a shower, basin and toilet.  The hot water cylinders are solar powered.  The facilities are uncomplicated, neat and clean.

There is a scullery adjacent to the bathrooms .

Taps are located along the back of the sites.

There are three, large, round,  communal braais provided at the campsite.  You will need to bring your own grid.  Wood can be purchased from the farmer..

On site
Every campsite has river frontage and therefore direct access to the river
The river has many deep sections, making it ideal for swimming
There is a wooden pontoon on the river, which is a hit with the kids.
Bring your lilos, kayaks or paddle boats to make the most of the river

Road conditions

The N2 to Caledon, and the road to Greyton are tarred.  There is a 12 km dirt road before the entrance to the farm.  The road is in a relatively good condition, but we siggest you take it slowly.  There is a short dirt track on the farm which leads down to the river and the camp sites.

This site is non-commercial and off the beaten track.
When booking, you will be given the code for the gate to enter the farm.  There is no reception office, so proceed directly to the site and set up.  The farmer will arrive  to greet and welcome you later,
The campsite can be booked out for group events or large gettogethers.
The campsite allows pets, but they will need to be supervised or on a leash as this is a working farm.

This is a lovely campsite that we have been to on a few occasions.  It is very peaceful here and the children enjoy themselves thoroughly here.  It is a wonderful and restful break.

      Hi Sharlene,
I would suggest you contact the owner of Champagne by the River yourself. His contact details are on the blog.
I am not affiliated with any of the camp sites mentioned in my blog, but am merely compiling information on them.
